MAURICE J. KERRIGAN & ASSOCIATES POLICIES AND PROCEDURES IN TRAINING
This page sets out a summary of the major policies and procedures affecting students and their training administration. For full details of our policies and procedures please read our student handbook, available HERE.
It is imperative that potential enrolees make themselves familiar with these policies as part of their enrolment process, as agreeing to these policies and conditions forms part of the enrolment contract. |
To see our full Policies and
procedures please download the 2015 Students Handbook HERE: Acceptance of your enrolment is
conditional on your acknowledgement that you have read, understood, and agreed
to the policies contained in the Handbook. If required, clarification of
any element of policy can be sought from the Training Manager [email protected]
Enrolment: Enrolment will only be accepted and finalised upon receipt of an accurately completed current enrolment form (including your Unique Student Identifier - which you may authorise us to get for you if you do not already have one), and cleared payment of the enrolment fee and first tuition instalment (or RPL fee).
Payment: Under current regulation of Registered Training Organisations it is not possible for an individual to pay for tuition in a single payment. Payments are to be made as indicated in the enrolment documentation (and payment schedule included in the Students Handbook). Currently this stands at $50.00 enrolment / administration fee for each course enrolled in; 3 x $500.00 instalments for the Certificate III in Investigative Services; 4 x $500.00 instalments for Certificate IV courses. Groups enrolled through Government Departments or corporations will be invoiced as negotiated.
A students enrolment will not be accepted and finalised until the enrolment fee; and first training instalment (or in lieu the RPL assessment fee) has cleared.
Subsequent payment instalments are scheduled at:
For the Certificate III in Investigative Services: the completion of the fifth and tenth competencies: and
For the Certificate IV in Government: the completion of the third, sixth, and ninth competencies.
Recognition of Prior Learning: MJK recognises that participants may already have skills in some of the areas that are covered by the course. To accommodate for this, MJK has an RPL/RCC process that is available to participants to gain recognition for appropriate skills and/or knowledge they may already have.
RPL/RCC recognises skills, knowledge and experience participants have gained from other courses, work experience, life experiences and from any informal training provided at work, and checks it against the learning outcomes and assessment criteria contained within a specific unit of competency. If what is learnt at work, or elsewhere, meets the course or unit requirements, recognition may be granted.
The RPL/RCC process recognises that the participant is entering the course with background knowledge, skills and experience. This could mean finishing the course much earlier or having a lighter course load, and also financial savings. It can also mean that the participant is not repeating previous studies when the participant does the units, and what units are required to be completed are new, interesting and challenging.
Any participant who believes that their prior learning and experience will adequately assist them in the completing the unit and can provide evidence that they are already competent in the learning outcomes of specific units are able to complete units by the RPL/RCC process. A self assessment, followed by an interview and/or 3 party report will be required to be completed to apply for RPL/RCC. If any gaps are identified, additional training will be required.
If a participant believes they have sufficient skills and knowledge to apply for RPL/RCC, they can contact the Training Manager on (07)5554 2600 or [email protected] to request a copy of the RPL/RCC Kit.
If participants have any queries regarding their ability to complete the units by RPL/RCC, they are able to contact the Training Manager on (07)5554 2600 or [email protected] to discuss the matter further.
All candidates accepted for enrolment will be considered for recognition of prior learning and/or recognition of current competence as part of their enrolment process. Candidates may apply for RPL simultaneous to their enrolment, prior to commencing training, or prior to commencing individual competencies. RPL may be granted for one or more complete competencies or for one or more elements of competency, up to and including award of the qualification if packaging rules are met. RPL may be granted for core and elective units as specified in the training package. Candidates may access the training packages and the rules thereof through http://www.training.gov.au . There is no differentiation between credentials awarded through RPL, assessment only, or training and assessment.
Cross Credit / Credit Transfer Further to the RPL/RCC Process, MJK will recognise qualifications or statements of attainment issued by another Registered Training Organisation.
If a participant has completed one or more of the units at another institution or by completing another NSCA course, MJK will grant credit for that unit. Certified copies of qualifications and/or statements of attainment must be provided in order to apply.
Refund: A student who withdraws within 10 days of enrolment will be refunded all tuition fees paid but we will retain the non-refundable administrative enrolment fee. withdrawal must be writing.
A student who withdraws prior to commencing a course (receipt of training materials or if online logging onto the course site) will be refunded all tuition fees paid but will forfeit the administrative enrolment fee. Withdrawal must be writing.
A student who withdraws from a course for medical, carer, financial hardship, or other reason accepted at the discretion of MJK after completing all training for which an instalment has been paid (sequenced competencies) will have a Statement of Attainment issued for all competencies completed; and the tuition fee for any non-commenced training refunded.
If a student believes the withdrawal is temporary they may (if agreed by us) not withdraw but rather suspend their enrolment for a period of up to 12 months. If this is the case the student has the choice of taking the refund and making a new payment when they reactivate their enrolment or suspending their enrolment without refund.
No payments are accepted in advance of your enrolment. Your continued enrolment is conditional on making instalment payments when due. If the student can provide evidence of extreme hardship when applying for a refund (medical and/or extreme financial hardship plus all requested documentation), this clause may we waived.
Refunds are not provided for students who change their mind about a course once enrolled or withdraw, or cease to study within the nominated progression expectation.
Refunds are not paid to the student where government assistance has been granted or the employer paid for the program.
Assessment: Conducting Assessments: In each area of study you will be advised of the assessment requirements of the unit or subject. You will be told how the evidence will be gathered and you may provide other means to demonstrate your competence.
Some units may be assessed with others. Some may be on the job and some may involve on and off the job components. Some assessments will be conducted online.
Each unit of competency will be assessed in several different ways and assessment may be conducted over a period of time so that the assessor has sufficient evidence of your skills.
We do not restrict the number of attempts you make at each assessment task and you will be provided with constructive feedback and direction on each attempt.
We understand that everyone learns differently and it is our aim at the Maurice J Kerrigan & Associates Pty Ltd to work with you and assist you to meet competency by modifying our approach or making adjustments to the assessment process as required.
You should discuss specific evidence requirements with your assessor.
Complaints/Appeals: A student should first discuss their concerns with their Trainer/Assessor, or other staff member they feel comfortable with. If the matter is satisfactorily resolved during initial discussions no action is required.
The Trainer/Assessor should make a note of the client’s concern so the feedback is kept and reviewed. Where a person is dissatisfied with the outcome of the complaint, the person may then complain to the Managing Director, who will make a decision and record the outcome of the complaint.
If necessary the circumstances and information surrounding the issue is investigated to the level warranted by its severity.
In the event the complainant reports that they are dissatisfied with the proposed solution the MD shall advise the complainant that an independent adjudicator shall be sought to consider the nature of the complaint and a possible further resolution.
The selection of an independent adjudicator shall be managed by the MD and be by mutual agreement with the complainant. All independent adjudicator outcomes will be reported to the next scheduled management meeting and documented and filed for future reference.
All independent adjudicator outcomes will be communicated to the complainant in a timely manner.
The root cause of the complaint/appeal will be included in the Maurice J Kerrigan & Associates Pty Ltd’s continuous improvement cycle.
Students may also contact the National Training Complaints Hotline which directs complaints to relevant authorities, connecting consumers to the appropriate organisation, where other avenues are exhausted and the student remains dissatisfied. Find out how to access the hotline and more about how it operates.
Progress: It is the student’s responsibility to maintain satisfactory progress through their course. If a student fails to maintain satisfactory progress their enrolment may be suspended or cancelled.
Students will be identified as being at risk of making unsatisfactory course progression if they:
Are deemed Not Yet Competent in a competency after three attempts (additional training and support will be offered after each attempt and a student determines when they feel confident to make subsequent attempts); or
Are deemed inactive (through lack of contact, by non-participation in tutorial, assessment submission or workbook completion) for a period of three months without contacting us.
Discontinuation of enrolment due to unsatisfactory course progression: A student who makes unsatisfactory course progression will have their enrolment suspended unless able to show cause by providing a Statement of Reason that is accepted by MJK.
Students whose enrolment is suspended will need to re-apply if they wish to seek admission to the same or equivalent course at MJK. A Statement of Attainment will be issued for all competencies completed.
However, they will not be eligible for admission to the same or equivalent course at MJK for a period of 12 months. This does not prevent the student enrolling in a course at a lower AQF level.
Notification: Students who are identified as making unsatisfactory course progression and whose enrolment is therefore discontinued will be notified in writing by the Training Manager or delegate.
Appeals: Students are able to appeal any decision taken by MJK under this policy through the Complaints/ Grievances and Appeals Procedure, normally within 10 working days of the date of notification of the particular decision.
Intervention : If a student is at risk of not making satisfactory course progression, the College may offer extra support for the student through the implementation of an intervention strategy. The extra support may include one of more of the following:
Learning support
Counselling
Disability support
IT support
Library support
Award: Qualifications and Statements of Attainment are issued to students who meet the required outcomes of a Qualification or unit of competency, in accordance with all appropriate national guidelines. Awards are dispatched within two weeks of successful completion of all assessment tasks necessary for the award.
On completion of an individual unit of competency, or a number of competencies that when grouped do not meet the requirements for the issuance of a qualification, contained within an accredited course or nationally recognised training package qualification, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment. A Statement of Attainment is provided in recognition that the participant has successfully completed part of a course or qualification. A Statement of Attainment can be used to gain a credit for the competency(s) with the Maurice J Kerrigan & Associates Pty Ltd, or another registered training provider either within the state of Queensland or interstate, should the participant wish to complete the course at a later time.
